Proceedings of the BIPOC Game Studies Conference 2025
The inaugural Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) Game Studies Conference was held from September 12–14, 2025, at the Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester, New York. The event brought together scholars, designers, and industry leaders to share research, showcase games, and discuss the future of game studies through the lens of BIPOC experiences. Each day featured keynote talks from influential figures such as Stanley Pierre-Louis, Elizabeth LaPensée, and the Bala brothers. Over 25 peer-reviewed presentations explored decolonial frameworks, diaspora narratives, cultural preservation, and community-led design. The conference also included a curated showcase of digital and analog games by BIPOC creators, interactive workshops, and an unconference session that encouraged participant-driven dialogue and networking. These proceedings reflect the rich ideas and connections shared at this landmark gathering.
